FRIENDS Ministry has purchased 54 additional acres to the north and west of our current location. On this land we will be providing food, labor, relationship building, and gardening skills through God's love for our community. Sounds like "Love your neighbor as yourselves" to us. In 2010, we have planted raspberries, sweet corn and vegetable produce and soon saskatoon berries. Community gardening will be offered, as well as, the future possibility for u-pick crops, a roadside stand and hoop housing. In addition to planting crops, we have installed 2,500 feet of 8' deer fence to protect them. It is very exciting to see how people are joining us on this new project that God is leading us in. Recent community farm meetings have shown widespread interest in better nutrition, work opportunities, learning new skills from each other building community strength and serving people in need. Many people have been, and continue to give of their time, talents and financial resources for this project. We are thankful we have already received some farm start-up donations, and we are trusting God for the rest. We can't wait to see where God leads us, and who joins us in this farming adventure. To God be the Glory!
Community Supported Agriculture
Our garden is growing! This is an unique opportunity for our community to come together and work to provide food, fellowship, and satisfaction of seeing hard work pay off. God has blessed us with a new farm manager Kim Musselman to help guide us through this adventure. We are always looking for more help so we invite you to come and see what the garden is about.
Support a Steer
Through the generosity of some area farmers FREINDS Ministry will have approximately 30 steer calves by the 1st of May. The calves will be fed by the farmers for the first sixty days and then donated to FRIENDS. We will locate the calves on a piece of our newly purchased property from the beginning of May through the end of October. A local experienced person has volunteered to oversee this project. If you would like to help us:
1. We are in need of individuals, families or groups to sponsor a calf. The cost is $1.65 per day or $49.00 per month. You can choose one month or multiple months (maximum of 6 months needed).
2. We would also gladly consider donations of quality bales of hay.
This project is needed to help us raise operating cash for our Friends Farm Community Garden implementation. Join us as a partner in our exciting new project!
